Thermal water
Thermal water from natural healing springs in Velké Losiny is one of the best quality sulphur thermal waters in the Czech Republic. It is known for its large amount of sulphur compounds, minerals and other elements important for human health. These include calcium, potassium, sodium, silicon, iron, zinc and fluorine. It is therefore no wonder that the healing effects of the Velké Losiny thermal water have been used for centuries. In the Velké Losiny Thermal Spa it helps in the treatment of not only skin, but also movement, circulatory and neurological diseases. And thanks to THERMELOVE® dermocosmetic products, it is now possible to enjoy its beneficial effects on the skin at home.
The discovery of the effects of the local natural sulphur springs is related to a folk tale recorded in the mid-16th century by Tomas Jordan of Klausenburg, a physician and balneologist who studied the effects of springs and mineral waters in Moravia: "A farmer had a sick horse, thin and afflicted with sores and mange, who had almost completely wasted away. He decided to drive the horse away, not wanting to keep it in his household any longer, fearing it might infect other animals. He even stopped feeding it. The horse wandered onto the nearby meadows and, by chance, ended up in a deep puddle or muddy pond. There it fell and lay for three days. After some time, possibly thanks to the water, the horse began rolling in the mud and eventually leaped out. It grazed on the meadows, and within a few days, perhaps also because it drank from that water (as seems likely), its skin regenerated, and it was cured of the mange. The now-healed horse, which the farmer had assumed had been torn apart and eaten by wild animals, surprisingly returned home. From that time on, people began using the water."
Characteristics of the springS
There are 5 natural springs in Velké Losiny - In general, they can be characterised as sulphurous plain hot springs and sulphurous cold springs. The best known and most used thermal spring in Velké Losiny is Žerotín Spring, which is a source of natural thermal weakly mineralised sulphur water. It springs from a depth of 1000 metres in the middle of the spa park. It is characterised by a high hydrogen sulphide content and a higher temperature, which reaches 36°C at the surface when it is flowing. It is the only plain sulphur thermal water in the Czech Republic to reach this temperature.
In the spa park, in a wooden gazebo near the Thermal Park, there is a cold sulphur spring called Karel, which is drinkable and rich in calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium and iron.
The composition of all the springs, both hot and cold, is almost identical, indicating their common origin. The most important healing element is hydrogen sulphide HS - in the amount of 3.3 mg/l, which makes the sulphur waters in the Thermal Spa of Velké Losiny one of the best in the Czech Republic.
