Síra a její účinky na lidské zdraví
Most of us think of sulphur as an unpleasant smell reminiscent of rotten eggs or a chemical laboratory. However, sulphur is a mineral that is important for the human body and our health. It is found all around us in nature - in the soil, in seawater, in the air, in plants and in the human body.
Sulphur is all around us
Sulphur is found in a variety of proteins present in practically all living organisms. It is one of the most common elements in the human body and is stored in muscle, skin and bone and plays an important role in many physiological processes in our body. It is essential for the growth of hair, nails and skin, as sulphur is important for the formation of keratin, which is contained here. Similarly, sulphur is found in cartilage and connective tissue, where it affects their flexibility. A lack of sulphur in the body can be indicated by joint pain, poor quality nails or hair.
In nature, plants take up sulphur from the soil in an aqueous solution. It enters the human body mostly in protein-rich foods such as cheese and eggs. Other sulphur-rich foods are e.g. kale, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, onions and garlic.
Sulphur as a pure element is found mainly in areas with abundant volcanic activity or around hot mineral springs. Its compounds are used in nearly all sectors of the chemical industry, food processing, cosmetics and the spa industry.
Sulphur mineral springs and their healing effects
The healing effects of sulphur mineral springs have been known for centuries. The sulphur thermal springs from the Velké Losiny spa and the sulphur springs from the Ostrožská Nová Ves spa are among the highest quality in the Czech Republic in terms of sulphur content and are therapeutically very effective. In addition to sulphur, the springs also contain other important minerals and trace elements that have a beneficial effect on the skin and the human body. In dermatology, the anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, antiparasitic, antipruritic, keratolytic, hydrating and vasodilating effect of mineral waters is used in particular. "Sulphur aids the synthesis of collagen and thus the proper formation of cells and tissues important for regeneration and also has a keratolytic effect. It reduces the amount of scales on the skin surface, removes corroded dead skin cells and has a significantly positive effect on the quality of connective tissue and cartilage," says MUDr. Kateřina Macháčková. Sulphur and sulphur mineral springs have proven to be particularly useful in the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, acne and various chronic skin problems.
Baths in sulphur thermal springs
Baths in sulphurous thermal water are the basis of spa treatment in Velké Losiny. They bring a wide range of beneficial effects on the human body and significantly contribute to the improvement of health in the treatment of skin, movement, circulatory and neurological diseases. For skin diseases, the procedure is suitable for the treatment of psoriasis, atopic eczema, acne and a range of other chronic inflammatory skin diseases. The penetration of hydrogen sulphide into the skin is sometimes accompanied by a reddening of the skin, the so-called sulphur erythema, the intensity of which increases with rising water temperature. It is also necessary to remove all silver jewellery before bathing. This is because with many metals, hydrogen sulphide forms sulphide-coloured sulphur, which is reflected in the blackening of jewellery.
As a result of not only these biochemical processes, sulphur and sulphur thermal springs have an anti-inflammatory, disinfectant and anti-itch effect on the skin. Sulphur also has an antifungal effect and the immune system is generally affected, with a decrease in allergic reactions and a rise in non-specific immunity. The effect of sulphur is therefore holistic and includes a positive effect on the skin and the entire musculoskeletal system, and the effect on fatigue syndrome is also significant.
The most common baths are total baths of 15-20 minutes, followed by a dry wrap. For localised dermatoses, baths may be partial. Sprays or wraps are an alternative form of treatment to baths.
Subsequent application of dermocosmetic products containing sulphur thermal water in the home environment leads to prolonged effects of the spa treatment and improved skin condition in which patients leave the spa.
THERMELOVE® dermocosmetics with sulphur thermal water
Sulphur thermal water from the natural healing spring of the Velké Losiny spa with a high sulphur content of over 3mg/l has become the basis of THERMELOVE® dermocosmetics. THERMELOVE® dermocosmetics were developed on the basis of many years of experience in the spa industry, in cooperation with dermatologists and other specialists and experts in the field of science and research. The composition of the products has been designed so that the individual ingredients have a synergistic effect when mixed and their interconnection creates a harmonious product. The basis of the THERMELOVE® dermocosmetics is the Velké Losiny natural healing spring Žerotín and various modern active ingredients specially developed for the care of skin prone to skin problems are used, including panthenol, urea, hyaluronic acid. Of the traditional herbs, the products contain herbal extracts and oils such as tea tree oil, lavender or thyme, which have beneficial effects on the skin and at the same time their fragrance has a relaxing effect. A few percent of colloidal sulphur is also always added to the sulphur range of products to make the product more effective on problematic skin.
Colloidal sulphur is a very finely ground form of sulphur in the form of a yellow powder that is added to creams, shampoos or soaps. These products containing colloidal sulphur are suitable for the care of skin with various problems such as acne, atopic eczema, psoriasis or dandruff. Colloidal sulphur is also contained in the comprehensive range of THERMELOVE® sulphur products for the care of problematic skin.
Do you know that:
Sulphur is a chemical element that has been known since the earliest times. Already Homer mentions the use of burning sulphur for disinfection.
Sulfur enters the body most often in a protein-rich diet.
Half of the sulphur in the human body is stored in the muscles, bones and skin.
Sulphur makes up approximately 0.03-0.09% of the Earth's crust.
In seawater, the concentration of sulphur is around 900 mg/l.
In space, one atom of sulphur is equivalent to approximately 60 000 atoms of hydrogen.
Sulphur melts at a temperature of 114 °C to form a yellow transparent liquid, liquid sulphur.
The rapid cooling of the sulphur vapour produces a sulphur flower.
